In August 2015, OpenSignal counted more than 24,000 types of Android devices used around the world. Despite the large number of models, few have come close to the iPhone’s usefulness and popularity. That could change in the near future as developers create new Android handsets with features that rival those included in the latest iPhone models.

If you want one of the latest, greatest Android devices, keep your eyes open for these three models.

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro

Google’s Project Tango recently developed a new approach to the way mobile devices interpret their surroundings and place themselves within the world. With Tango, features like augmented reality, 3D mapping and physical space measurements get integrated into your Android smartphone or tablet.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is one of the first devices to offer Tango, so it’s certain to become a popular item by the end of 2016. Lenovo expects to release the phone by the end of summer.

Tango’s augmented reality abilities aren’t the only reason to buy a Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. The smartphone also boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, three microphones for 360-degree voice recordings and a 6.4-inch QHD display that automatically adjusts to your environment’s lighting conditions.

Moto Z Force

Motorola’s Moto Z Force is a modular phone that lets you pick and choose which features you want. It comes standard with a 21 MP camera, fingerprint reader, up to 40 hours of battery life and a 5.5-inch Quad HD display that’s guaranteed not to crack or shatter. The Moto Z Force even has TurboPower Charging, which lets you add 15 hours of power to the smartphone within 15 minutes.

While these features make the Moto Z Force a good phone, most consumers will purchase the device for its Moto Mods. The modifications let you add JBL SoundBoost speakers, a Moto Insta-Share video projector and an Incipio offGrid Power Pack that gives you 22 extra hours of battery life.

Motorola expects to release the Moto Z Force by the end of September 2016.

Sony Xperia Z6

Sony hasn’t released much information about its Xperia Z6. In fact, some rumors suggest that the smartphone may never reach consumers. Hopefully, those rumors aren’t true, because the Xperia Z6 could offer laser auto-focus, a Snapdragon 820 processor and a large HD display with rounded edges. There has also been talk suggesting that the Xperia Z6 learns your charging routine to maximize its battery life.

Expect to hear more about the Xperia Z6 in October 2016.

The Android operating system has all of the features needed for developers to keep up with Apple. This year, you might see a smartphone that takes advantage of the system’s abilities.
